Cocobolo Dusk
The Cocobolo Dusk fountain pen marks the debut of our Owl Heritage series—a bespoke collection of writing instruments turned from select, premium hardwoods. Crafted to a substantial Heron size, this exceptional pen is shaped from a single piece of premium Cocobolo, ensuring the dramatic, sweeping grain lines flow seamlessly across the barrel, section, and cap. The wood exhibits a gorgeous, deep palette of rich reddish-browns interlaced with striking, ink-black growth rings that create a majestic, shadowed look reminiscent of twilight in an old-growth forest. With its clean, clipless, and modern flat-top silhouette, Cocobolo Dusk highlights the raw, natural artistry of one of the world's most sought-after exotic woods.
About the Wood: Cocobolo
Cocobolo is a rare and highly prized exotic hardwood native to Central America, belonging to the rosewood family (Dalbergia). Renowned for its incredible density and rich natural oils, it features a spectacular range of colors, shifting over time from warm oranges and deep reds to dark, silken browns with jet-black striping. Because of its hardness and oily nature, Cocobolo is notoriously challenging to turn and glue, requiring immense patience, razor-sharp lathe tools, and a master touch to finish perfectly without dulling its vibrant character. It is a true heirloom wood that naturally darkens and develops a rich, personal patina the more it is held and used.
The Owl Heritage Care Guide
Because this series is crafted from living, premium wood rather than synthetic resins, it requires special care to ensure it lasts for generations:
-
Avoid Extreme Moisture: Unlike acrylic pens, your wooden pen should never be submerged in water or left in high-humidity environments. Wipe down the grip section gently with a soft, damp cloth if ink gets on the wood during filling, and dry it immediately.
-
Control the Climate: Wood naturally breathes, expanding and contracting with its environment. Keep your pen away from direct, prolonged sunlight, hot cars, or sitting directly next to heating vents, which can cause the natural fibers to dry out or crack.
-
Nourish the Grain: To protect the wood from the natural oils of your hands and preserve its luster, we recommend applying a tiny amount of natural renaissance wax or high-quality wood conditioner once or twice a year, buffing gently with a microfiber cloth.
