Cocobolo Shadow Crest
The Cocobolo Shadow Crest fountain pen is a commanding, bespoke addition to our Owl Heritage series, crafted for those who appreciate understated elegance and classic style. Individually turned from a highly figured, deeply dark cut of cocobolo wood, it closely mirrors the moody aesthetic of its clipless sibling. Subtle ribbons of deep auburn and charcoal wood grain peer through the dark, espresso-toned surface. Outfitted with a premium chrome pocket clip, this model pairs the organic warmth of fine hardwood with a clean, functional edge. To ensure maximum durability and comfort during long writing sessions, it is designed with a sleek, high-gloss solid black grip section that creates a striking, modern contrast against the natural matte timber of the cap and barrel.
About the Wood: Cocobolo
Cocobolo is a rare and highly prized exotic hardwood native to Central America, belonging to the rosewood family (Dalbergia). Renowned for its incredible density and rich natural oils, it features a spectacular range of colors, shifting over time from warm oranges and deep reds to dark, silken browns with jet-black striping. Because of its hardness and oily nature, Cocobolo is notoriously challenging to turn and glue, requiring immense patience, razor-sharp lathe tools, and a master touch to finish perfectly without dulling its vibrant character. It is a true heirloom wood that naturally darkens and develops a rich, personal patina the more it is held and used.
